About Physiotherapy for Animals

Physiotherapy is not just “physical therapy”. It is a set of skills enabling me to assess the overall movement, specific joint movement, muscle condition and use each piece of this puzzle to form a complete plan for treatment. This treatment can solve problem areas with techniques such as:

  • Massage

  • Stretching

  • Myo-fascial release

  • Range of Motion

  • Trigger Point release

Unlike humans, animals cannot express where their pain is. Therefore physiotherapy maps out the current ability and aims to improve it. Manual work is often paired with electrotherapy. These machines have specific uses and target deeper tissues. These include:

  • Pulsed magnetic field therapy (PMFT) (Find out more)

  • LASER

  • Therapeutic Ultrasound

  • Neuro-Muscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) and TENS

The best results are achieved with regular sessions teamed with a tailored exercise programme for home use.

Does my Animal Need Physiotherapy?

Most animals will benefit from treatment, not just the injured, prevention is better than cure.

  • Injured Animals - Physiotherapy provides supportive plans to ease pain and improve function and quality of life.

  • Paralysed Animals - Gives mental and physical stimulation to maintain normal body function and muscle tone.

  • Elderly Animals - Relief from arthritis or degenerative disease. I aim to maintain good function and can improve ability to locomote

  • Sporting Animals - Improving performance at competition and maintain fitness

  • Pets - Resolve/Prevent underlying issues to ensure your pet can continue with daily exercise pain free and for many more years.
